Affirmation

I am building character and seasoning my children for success.

“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it .”

What are your dreams for your children? We all have them. Does your child go to Harvard or start a successful business? Are they famous and living in Hollywood?

When my husband and I were thinking of baby names I had this knack of coming up with names that sounded like a country singer. We laughed that our kids would form a country band and make us famous. Now, it’s fun to dream about what things like that. I still dream about being famous. It’s unrealistic but fun. Having these dreams for our children is important. It lets them know that we care about them enough that we want the best for them. But, ultimately, we can’t force them to go down that path, we can only hope that they, too, want the same thing.

Is one of your dreams that your children grow up to love Jesus the same way, or more, than you love him?

I feel like a lot of people forget that that’s just as important as where they go to college, what major they study, or what kind of job they have. I’ve sat around a lot of tables and heard a lot of stories about how parent’s have dictated what major they should study or what school they should go to. It’s all been in good humor that they love their child and just want whats best for them, but they forget that God blesses each and everyone of us with unique gifts. And those gifts will be used to further his kingdom. If that isn’t your dream for your children, if that’s not what you deem successful, than what is?

Having dreams about your children is amazing, but raising them with the confidence that God will guide their decisions is the best thing you can do for them and for the kingdom of God. To me, that’s the most important thing you can do for your child. Give them the means to discern God’s voice and direction in their life, that sets them up for success.

I don’t say this to say, don’t try and push your children to go to a good school or major in something that’s going to help them succeed in this world. By all means, that’s important to. Just don’t lose sight on the author and protector of our faith. The one who directs our paths. That’s what we need to remember.

I hope that this affirmation taught you something. Write it down and put it some where you will see it. Meditate on it! I’m always praying for you.
